The Gingerbread City : A virtual revisit.

December 12, 2020

The Gingerbread City is an annual exhibition where architects, designers and engineers create an entire city made of gingerbread.

The aim of the exhibition is to connect the public with architecture through an innovative display designed for the holiday season. The Gingerbread city exhibition raises money to support the Museum of Architecture. Which as a charity helps to create programming, exhibitions and events.

The 2019 event attracted over 30 thousand visitors and more than 10 thousand votes were cast to choose the winning exhibits.

Spatial Dimensions were delighted to have been invited to provide a 3D reality capture of last years city. Using the latest Leica laser scanning technology, our team surveyed the sugar-coated As-Built Survey, in less than an hour!

2020

Sadly, this year it’s become another casualty of the COVID pandemic and like many other festive events it won’t be going ahead this year.

However, the Museum of Architecture have a free gingerbread advent calendar running every day through December in the run up to the big day. There are downloadable activities for kids and adults, behind the scenes, recipes and much more.

The founder and director of MoA Mellisa Wolford contacted us to see if we could make use of last year’s survey data. She wanted to create something that allows visitors to enjoy last year’s exhibition from the comfort of their homes. We were delighted to help out and use our survey from last year. This has now been brought back to life in a glorious 360° virtual reality tour

Follow the link below to explore your way around last year’s exhibition.

Watch our guide to using the virtual tour below.

We really hope you enjoy the virtual tour

If it’s your first experience of Gingerbread City, be sure to mark December 2021 in your calendar to visit the exhibition. Experience yourself the full mouth watering masterpiece in person and take in the aroma of the Christmas gingerbread. It really is unique.

In the meantime, you can sign up for the free advent calendar at www.thegingerbreadcity.com/

Have a wonderful Christmas
