Spatial Dimensions are proud to support the Get Kids Into Survey campaign
June 20, 2019
We are delighted to announce our official support for the “Get Kids Into Survey” campaign.
The movement is headed up by Ely Ball with an aim to educate and attract the next generation of surveyors, whilst also spreading interest globally for the fast paced geospatial profession.
Smart Cities London (shown above) is the latest poster in the campaign and features Skyla, the Spatial Dimensions Eagle! She has powerful laser vision and a fearless presence, standing high above the busy city.
This poster alongside our eagle character was officially launched at the international Geo-Business event in London last month. The impressive animation was wallpapered over an entire exhibition stand at The Business Design Centre.
We will be distributing the London smart cities poster to local schools.
It’s clear there is a chronic skills shortage within our profession and the Get Kids into Survey campaign is a great way to start helping. Over 85% of UK surveyors said they have problems recruiting due to a lack of qualified applicants (RICS, 2015). In fact, “the skills shortage has now overtaken planning and regulation as the second biggest problem facing the industry” (Telegraph 2017).
The USA, POB Magazine reported a shortage of surveyors, full stop! The FIG and the NSPS both launched young surveyors networks to support surveyors aged up to 35. The ambition is to generate interest in surveying as a career while young people are still in school!
THE GET KIDS INTO SURVEY MISSION
The Get Kids Into Survey mission is to educate children on the huge variety of job roles available in the geospatial world, highlighting the exciting technology and equipment used. They want to work on educating the educators, helping them nurture the next generation and introducing surveying as a career prospect from early on. They have plans to offer scholarship schemes globally, as well as working closely with official survey associations around the world.
They aim to deliver their mission by working with the Educational System, Brand Ambassadors/Distributors worldwide by providing fun educational content and marketing.
Spatial Dimensions Managing Director Claire Fenwick commented “We are extremely proud to be working with the Get Kids into Survey team and fully support their mission to inspire the next generation of surveyors. We often work with local schools, exhibiting at careers fairs and encouraging work experience students to come and meet us. The Smart City poster will be a lovely addition to our exhibits and is sure to get the kids talking. We can’t wait to start distributing them.”
