Wood Design Awards 2015
November 18, 2015
The Wood Design Awards 2015 were awarded last week. They are the UK’s premier competition for excellence in architecture and product design in the world’s only naturally sustainable material.
The Awards aim to recognise, encourage and promote outstanding design, craftsmanship and installation using wood. The top honour this year (the Arnold Laver Gold Award and Private Winner 2015) was scooped by Niall McLaughlin Architects “The Fishing hut”
The event was held at the famous Carpenters’ Hall—one of the many historical guilds located in the City of London. Other winners included “The Studio” by Bradley Van Der Straeten Architects, “Bryanston School: The Tom Wheare Music School” by Hopkins Architects and “The Observatory: The Study & The Workshop” by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.
The prestigious competition was originally known as the crafty Carpenters’ Award when it was first held in 1971, but it was rebranded as the wood design awards in 2003 to signal its commitment to the best in contemporary practice.
